Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Health Information Services position is responsible for maintaining patient confidentiality of protected health information (PHI)in accordance with HIPAA, State and JCAHO standards and regulations. Ensures the collection, organization, distribution, and maintenance of protected health information. Prioritizes stat requests for PHI. Facilitates the location and retrieval of electronic and/or hard copy PHI. Utilizes chart tracking software. Assists physicians, other health care professionals, patients, and outside customers as needed regarding the release of confidential PHI. Demonstrates flexibility and the ability to prioritize tasks. Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with little or no supervision as a team player.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Applies critical thinking skills in day-to-day operations.

Applies the concepts of FOCUS PDCA in performance improvement activities.

Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.

Communicates effectively with management and co-workers of status of work to ensure continuity of department function.

Medical Terminology or successful completion of course within six months of hire required.

Basic keyboarding and computer skills required.

Must possess the ability to deal with a wide variety of individuals and possible scenarios.

Must be flexible and able to handle work interruptions.

Must be able to multi-task.
