Scientist

Summary
Under the direction of supervising scientist, carries out assigned studies within the R&D laboratories. Follows standard operating procedures, oral instructions, records data in laboratory notebooks, and maintain a safe environment in the laboratory work area. Critically analyzes data and proposes conclusions. Serve as a member on project teams. Within a defined scope designs experiments, writes test protocols and technical reports. This is an exempt full time salaried position.
Essential Job Functions
1.Contributes to laboratory studies by performing appropriate chemical analysis following standard operating procedures. Design and conducting non-standard investigative procedures aimed at addressing specific project goals. Contributes data, performs calculations, provide interpretation of data, and summarize findings in formal and informal reports.
2.Plans daily activities to meet predetermined project timelines. Serve as a member of project teams and participates in project team meetings.
3.Can recognize, record, and communicate both expected and unexpected results to supervising scientist. Serve as a member of project sub-teams. Acquire and develop a level of technical knowledge needed to contribute to the project teams and chemistry group.
4.Where possible, recognize or recommend potential improvements to improve laboratory efficiency and modifications to standard operating procedures.
5.Performs scientific literature searches and provides summaries and evaluations, as required. Develop a technical knowledge and understanding for the area of responsibility.
6.Maintains laboratory instrumentation and keeps calibration of equipment current.
7.Familiarity with safety procedures and principles for the laboratories to support working in a safe environment.
8.Maintain housekeeping in the laboratories so safe and efficient work practices can be performed.
Job Requirements:Education and Experience
BS degree in chemistry, or related scientific discipline, with suitable chemistry knowledge, required. 3 to 10 years work experience in a non-academic chemical laboratory facility, preferred.

MS degree in chemistry, or related scientific discipline, with suitable chemistry knowledge, required. 0 to 5 years relevant experience.
