Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Director Medical Records and in conjunction with the Cancer Program Administrative Team is responsible for maintaining continuous American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS) accreditation of the hospital's Cancer Program. Responsibilities include planning, establishing and implementing an assessment procedure to maintain compliance with CoC standards in collaboration with the hospital's multidisciplinary team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Completion of a 4-year college curriculum in Health Information Management or a healthcare related field.
- Must possess knowledge and proficiency with implementing the CoC Cancer Program Standards, OCCIS, JCAHO, and AOA requirements as they relate to the Cancer Registry.
- Must be able to work independently under nominal supervision.
- Must be able to work under pressure, conditions of frequent interruption and uneven work flow.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must demonstrate effective writing skills, ability to provide constructive feedback, identify creative methods in problem solving both independently and cooperatively.
- Must be discreet in the use and divulging of confidential information.
- Must be accurate in the performance of work.
- Must possess initiation, be analytical and be aware of the importance of position in record flow.
- Must be able to maintain good working relations and communication with the medical staff, nursing personnel, administration and other ancillary departments within the hospital.
- Must demonstrate excellent skills in listening and verbal communications communication and organizational skills
- Must be able to demonstrate PC proficiency and the ability to retrieve, analyze, manage, and present statistical data.
- Must possess strong customer service and team orientation skills.
- Must be able to accurately perform multiple tasks simultaneously and meet multiple demands
- Must be flexible in day-to-day actions and duties.
Required Length and Type of Experience
- Three - five years of previous experience in a similar capacity preferred.
- Must be able to use a telephone effectively and receive or transmit messages clearly and accurately.
- Must have experience in the operation of a Personal Computer.
- Must be able to learn specialized software functions.
Required Licensure, Certification or Registry
- Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification
Required Physical and Environmental Demands
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
