Summary:
Provide leadership for the ongoing planning and development of John Carroll University’s web presence (www.jcu.edu). The Director’s primary focus will be on marketing-driven, public-facing web pages that increase the awareness and enhance the reputation of the institution. The main goal is to use the web as a marketing tool to help drive student enrollment. Working in concert with the Assistant Vice President, the Director will act as the chief web advocate promoting appropriate methods of messaging, communication, and community-building based on a solid understanding of the University and how the web supports the brand architecture. As the University’s web leader and as a marketing leader on campus, the Director will partner with faculty, staff, administrators, and students and build a network of web authors and contributors. Provide sound leadership and advice to ensure that policies and practices promote consistently high quality content, design, and navigation to support the vision, mission, and image of the University to its audiences on the web.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Success in this role will require a strong commitment to leadership, creativity, teamwork and constant communication. As a key leader of Integrated Marketing and Communications, the Director must be able to provide clear direction to a vibrant and creative team. The Director must be able to build campus-wide relationships, partner with external resources, and be recognized as a trusted collaborator. Maintain close contact with the University’s Chief Information Officer and staff.
Develop relationships with vendors of web services, vendors of hardware and software, as well as training and technology consultants. The University will rely on the Director’s expertise in web marketing, technology, production, design, usability, analytics, content creation, and small scale applications development . You must have outstanding project management skills and proven experience in guiding teams to deliver projects on-time, on-budget, and of the highest quality. The Director will have a leadership role in communicating, facilitating, and training on the use of web procedures and policies throughout the University. Responsible for coordinating the web portion of the University’s crisis communications plan. Periodic communication with peers at other universities to share ideas/best practices or to meet and collaborate in the context of professional conferences will be expected. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Successful Candidates Should Have:
In addition to outstanding communication and team-building skills, you must have a solid understanding of web marketing and how to use technology to achieve business goals. The ability to translate these into appropriate strategies and actions for the campus community is essential. Hands-on experience with web design and development, information architecture, multimedia production, and web content management is particularly critical. Prior experience in a higher education is strongly preferred and specific experience with web content management systems (including process and workflow design) is also critical. Experience with web marketing performance metrics and using analytics and marketing campaign tracking tools is strongly preferred. You should have 7-10 years of experience leading teams of technologists, designers, web writers, and multi-media producers. You must have a track record of achieving marketing-driven web goals and meeting the expectations of internal partners. A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required.
