Job Description

Family Self - Sufficiency Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

As a LMHA staff member, the FSS coordinator works closely with families participating in the FSS Program in order to identify the families’ basic needs, recommend training and services to meet their needs, and monitor the families’ progress throughout their participation in the program. Work involves considerable and constant public contact, often under trying conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Works with families to help determine financial and other needs.

2. Maintains contact with each participating family and monitors and evaluates their progress in order to help them achieve their goals.

3. Stays in contact with participating agencies to ensure that they fulfill their commitments.

4. Maintains open lines of communication with participating agencies.

5. Coordinates activities with supervisor to ensure that requirements of the Family Self Sufficiency program are being met.

6. Provides monthly reports and other reports as needed.

7. Performs related work as required.

RELATED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Interviews participating families and gathers pertinent information concerning their present situations.

2. Conducts assessments and identifies basic needs of participating families.


3. Counsels participating families on a one-on-one basis and works with each family to develop an Individualized Training and Services Plan (ITSP).

4. Explains approved ITSP and its specific goals to each participating family.

5. Contacts appropriate support agencies and sets up initial appointments for each participating family.

6. Advises participating families of initial appointment and provides follow-up to ensure attendance.

7. Mails FSS Escrow Account statement annually to participants

8. Conducts quarterly Program Coordinating Committee meetings.

9. Writes and designs a monthly program newsletter.

10. Assists in the maintenance of Housing Choice Voucher caseload.



REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

1. Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with participating families, Authority staff, and outside agencies (both public and private).

2. Knowledge of social service programs.

3. Ability to assess the needs of participating families.

4. Ability to manage large caseload of families with diverse needs.

5. Ability to perform duties in an organized manner under limited supervision within established deadlines.

6. Must be able to work with and maintain confidential information on a regular basis.

7. Ability to operate a typewriter, computer, and other common office machines with reasonable speed and accuracy.

8. Ability to fulfill the duties of a Section 8 Interviewer.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. Graduation from high school or GED required; college degree preferred.

2. Minimum two (2) years experience in an area directly related to position.

3. Extensive experience in an area directly related to the position may substitute for the college degree requirements.

4. Training or experience in case management

5. Must be able to read and write.



SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Must be bondable.

2. Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio vehicle operator’s license.

3. Must complete formal training – specifically, Family Self Sufficiency, Housing Choice Voucher Specialist, and Homeownership Training – and pass all exams with a score of 70% or better. Passing these tests on the first attempt within the first six (6) months is a condition of continued employment.

4. Must demonstrate attached competencies.
